Hi, my name is Allison and this is Allison’s Book World, a blog dedicated to my passion for reading and all things bookish!
I have pretty much been a bookworm for my whole existence. I can probably thank my mom for getting me started on my lifelong hobby of reading when she read Dr. Seuss to me and my brothers every night.
Since the days of my mom reading Dr. Seuss books to me, my book tastes have evolved. Nowadays, I mainly read romance books on my phone or Kindle. If I am feeling adventurous, I might read some fantasy (largely romantasy), dystopia, or the occasional mystery. One thing you will probably not catch me reading in my spare time is non-fiction.
Regardless of the genre (minus non-fiction as I have already established), I read books because I love it.
I love getting to be able to see myself through characters that are relatable to me or getting to read characters who are the type of person I aspire to be. I love getting to live in new worlds and experiences through the eyes of the main character(s).
The number one thing, though, that I love about books is how they allow me to feel connected.
Loneliness is a reoccurring, negative strain on my mental health and self-image, and has been for quite a while in my life, but reading helps me combat those feelings of loneliness through being able to connect to the characters and worlds I read about.
I have also found connection through sharing my love of reading with other readers. Whether it be a simple conversation with a stranger, debating a plotline in a book with my brother, or sending funny book reels to my reader friends, books are a source of connection.
The connection that bookworms feel to the books they read and other bookworms is something that I am looking to further foster on this blog through giving reading advice, book recommendations, and commentary on relevant topics in the book community.
So, welcome to Allison’s Book World, the place where book lovers flourish.
