Hello, book besties. Today is an extra special blog because I interviewed Meg from @megs.libraryy on her journey as a reader and a bookstagrammer. Without further ado, let’s get into her story.

Meg the Reader

“For as long as I can remember reading has been a big part of my life,” Meg said.

Meg’s mother read Strawberry Shortcake books to her before bed as a young child. In elementary school, Meg read fairy books. In middle school, she was obsessed with baking books. She didn’t read as much in high school, but once Covid hit, while she was in college, she started reading a lot more contemporary romance books.

Meg describes her overall reading taste as “a little bit of many different genres,” including romance, fantasy, young adult, mysteries, and thrillers but she has recently been trying to branch into other genres such as historical fiction.

Meg the Bookstagrammer

Although Meg has been a reader throughout her life, she didn’t start her bookstagram until August of 2023.

“When I started my account, I didn’t have that many friends and kind of isolated myself. I wanted to do something outside of my comfort zone and connect with other people who love books just as much as me,” she said.

Meg also wanted a place to be creative and describes her account as a scrapbook of her favorite bookish things.

As far as what her digital scrapbook contains, that has varied since the start of her account.

“When I first started, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing,” she said.

Meg used to post a lot of book reviews and meme reels, but pulled away from that content.

Meg’s current content consists of bookish trends, photos, and things she learned from bookstagram. However, she currently finds the question of what to post a challenge.

“I tend to overthink which leads to me not posting as often as I would like,” she said.

Meg’s Bookstagram Advice

Since Meg has experience and success when it comes to bookstagram, my last interview question was what advice she would give anyone thinking about joining bookstagram. Her answer?

“My advice for someone who wants to join bookstagram would be to have fun with it and always be yourself,” she said.

Meg also advised that you have to be alright with some people not liking your content, and she spoke about burnout, which she experienced earlier in the year.

“I ended up deactivating my account for about three months,” she said. “I was getting incredibly burnt out from posting and constantly comparing myself to others.”

Meg’s takeaway from that experience is to not force yourself to post or feel like that you have to be active all the time.

And for one final last piece of wisdom from Meg?

“Bookstagram is an amazing community and it should be enjoyable,” she said.
